History
Eagle RUFC was formed in 1962 by a group of friends, some of whom worked in the local factory, and who felt it was time to establish a rugby union club in a rugby league heartland. The name Eagle, and the club’s motif, comes from the Eagle logo of one of those businesses, Rubery Owen, which has long since disappeared from its Great Sankey location.
From a one team club, Eagle grew, and in the late Eighties, were running three senior sides plus a vets team. Whilst there were few members who had been at the club from the start, that vets team did revive the careers of a number of Eagle stalwarts, as can be seen here
